A 30-page printable trip planner for first-time visitors to Rocky Mountain National Park: timed entry made simple, when to go, sample 1, 2 and 3-day plans, 18 day hikes and walks from flat lakeside loops to waterfalls, and the altitude, storm and wildlife rules that keep you safe. $9.99, instant PDF download in US Letter and A4.

Rocky is high country: most trailheads sit between 8,000 and 9,500 ft (2,400 to 2,900 m), and in summer you need a timed entry reservation to drive in during the busiest hours. This guide puts the whole trip on paper, so you book the right reservation, pick hikes that fit the altitude and your group, and arrive with a plan.

What is inside (30 pages)

  • The park at a glance: east side vs west side, the entrances, Estes Park and Grand Lake, and the elevations that matter
  • When to go, month by month: snow on trails, wildflowers, golden aspens, the elk rut and road openings
  • Timed entry explained step by step: the two reservation types, how the monthly and night-before releases worked in 2026, and what to do if you miss out
  • The free park shuttles, gateway towns, campgrounds and 2026 entrance fees (including the non-resident fee for Canadian and other visitors)
  • Altitude: why the first day feels hard, how to go slow, and the warning signs to turn back
  • Afternoon thunderstorms and lightning, and wildlife distances from the NPS for elk, moose and bears
  • 18 day hikes and walks on Bear Lake Road, in Wild Basin, near Longs Peak and on the quieter west side (Bear Lake, Nymph, Dream and Emerald Lakes, Alberta Falls, Mills Lake, Ouzel Falls, Adams Falls, the Colorado River Trail and more). Distance in mi and km, climb in ft and m, from nps.gov
  • Trail Ridge Road and Old Fall River Road: stops, seasons and the one-way rule
  • Sample 1, 2 and 3-day plans, rainy-day ideas, fall and winter visits, kids and families, accessible trails
  • Packing list, booking checklist with dates to remember, a trip planner page and hike log pages

  • No Longs Peak summit plan: it is a serious climb, and the guide explains why
  • No maps or GPS files. The guide points you to the official NPS maps

Questions

Do I need a timed entry reservation? In 2026 you needed one from late May to mid-October to drive in during the busiest hours, with a separate, longer window for Bear Lake Road. The guide explains both types, how the releases work and the legal ways in without one. Check nps.gov/romo for next year's dates.

Will the altitude be a problem? Even fit hikers feel it on the first day. The guide suggests easy first-day walks, explains the warning signs and when to go down. It is general information, not medical advice.

Does it include maps or GPX files? No. It points you to the official NPS maps.

Is anything shipped? No. It is an instant PDF download, and the download buttons arrive in your order confirmation email right after checkout.
